Transformations that occur through manipulated material interest me. Snowflakes can begin from particles of dust, which grow unique crystalline structures. Similarly a gemstone's flaws mark its growth. It is the flaw that makes the stone vivid and desirable. Somewhere in these flaws and grime lives delirious and mysterious beauty. I look for beauty in the gap that joins the unlike to the unlike creating the unexpected and extraordinary, powerful and individual instances that allude to the messiness of life. Beauty, and my work as an artist, is based in this icy spark.
